Digital Fingerprints is an outstanding site that goes into great detail on how digital imaging can help solve crime.  It outlines the differences between digital images and conventional photographs; shows how 3rd level detail of a fingerprint is achieved using digital enhancement processes; provides the easiest explanation on the Fast Fourier Transform process I have yet to find ... and simply offers an amazing amount of extremely useful information!

Free (Public Licence) image processing and analysis software!!!  Many links to some very useful imaging tools. Experiment with FFT and other digital enhancement techniques. Plus...links to commercial software applicable to forensic sciences.
